While Captain Jack Sparrow is all the rage it has become over done and expected. A classic pirate costume to try is Captain Hook, a timeless literary character from the story of Peter Pan. Luckily for Captain Hook, he could always tell when the crocodile was around because of the sound of a ticking clock the crocodile had also swallowed. Hook captures Wendy and goes on to challenge Peter Pan to a duel. Peter beats Hook and throws him overboard to the waiting crocodile, who finally gets his full-course dinner.

To create your own Captain Hook pirate costume, start with a white ruffled shirt and some dark tights. Next, look for an old-fashioned coat; try for a dark red or blue one with gold or brass colored buttons. It should be long enough to reach down to your thighs. The wig is Captain Hook’s signature, so make sure to find a similar one to the movie. You’ll need pants that tuck into pirate boots, a frilly cravat and feathered three-point hat. You’ll need a sword to fight off that pesky Peter Pan and of course, his iconic hook-hand. You’ll also need to practice his swagger and British accent. Other than just dressing the part of the Joker, you can watch the movie to gain insight into how the Joker actually acts.
